Using a moisturizer can provide several benefits for your skin. Here are some of the main advantages:

  1. Hydration: Moisturizers are designed to hydrate your skin by replenishing its moisture content. They help prevent water loss from the skin, keeping it moisturized and preventing dryness. Well-hydrated skin tends to appear healthier, smoother, and more supple.

  2. Skin barrier protection: A moisturizer forms a protective barrier on the skin's surface, which helps prevent external irritants, pollutants, and toxins from penetrating the skin. This barrier function helps maintain the skin's natural defenses and promotes overall skin health.

  3. Skin nourishment: Many moisturizers contain ingredients that provide essential nutrients to the skin, such as vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids. These ingredients help nourish the skin, promote cell regeneration, and support a healthy complexion.

  4. Skin nourishment: Many moisturizers contain ingredients that provide essential nutrients to the skin, such as vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids. These ingredients help nourish the skin, promote cell regeneration, and support a healthy complexion.

  5. Improved skin texture: Dry or dehydrated skin can feel rough, flaky, and uneven. Moisturizers help smoothen and soften the skin's texture, making it appear more youthful and refined.

Now that we have the facts about moisturizing your skin, let's take a look at some ingredients which are in some of the products we use.

The main ingredient in face moisturizers can vary depending on the specific product and brand. However, one of the most common and essential ingredients found in moisturizers is water or aqua. Water acts as a base and provides hydration to the skin.

In addition to water, moisturizers often contain a combination of other key ingredients such as:

Humectants: These ingredients, such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and propylene glycol, attract and retain moisture in the skin, helping to keep it hydrated.

Emollients: Emollients like oils (e.g., jojoba oil, coconut oil, or argan oil), shea butter, or ceramides help soften and smooth the skin's surface by forming a protective barrier and preventing water loss.

Occlusives: Occlusive agents like petrolatum, lanolin, or dimethicone create a physical barrier on the skin, sealing in moisture and preventing evaporation.

Antioxidants: Many moisturizers include antioxidants such as vitamins C and E or green tea extract. These ingredients help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors.

Anti-inflammatory agents: Ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile extract, or niacinamide have anti-inflammatory properties, which can soothe and calm irritated or sensitive skin.  These ingredients can help redness as well.

I have researched skin care products for over 10 years.  I have found two main products I cannot live without: First, 111Skin https://amzn.to/3NcK9f5  (link to Amazon for 111Skin.).  I get the Allure subscription box every month (https://amzn.to/3p0QbaN).  It is $25.00 a month and you often get full sized bottles of different moisturizers.  Lots of other stuff comes in it too.  Because of my aging skin, I focus on the moisturizers.    :)

The second thing I cannot do without is La Roche-Posay (https://amzn.to/3X9jpkk)  I alternate between the two moisturizers twice a day.

The picture below shows most of the products I have received from the Allure subscription.  It is the best 25 bucks I spend every month!!

We will talk Vitamin C for the face soon!

Stay tuned!
